Here’s an oddity that I found when researching a video I’m working on at the moment – within the technology space, if you ignore AI, no one has invented anything in the past ten years.
One of the things I’ve posted about often is that even as a non-technology founder, it’s really hard to make bad technical decisions – for the simple reason that if you avoid doing anything just flat out weird and bizarre, most technology problems have been solved by products invented – as I say – about a decade ago.
Everything that’s in a normal stack of software that you would build an deploy within a new technology business is at least 10 years old, and some of it is easily 30 years old.
Which makes me wonder about whether the interest in AI actually has a lot to do with whether it’s just a way of alleviating boredom for people in the software industry who haven’t had much to do over the past decade.
